VeloBank strengthens its Supervisory Board. António Horta-Osório, a trusted global banking leader, joins as its member
VeloBank has just announced the appointment of António Horta-Osório, one of the world’s most respected banking leaders, as a member of its Supervisory Board. This marks a strategic strengthening that underscores VeloBank’s ambition to be a regional banking challenger and an institution where stability meets innovation, creating the best solutions for clients.
António Horta-Osório brings more than 30 years of experience in managing global financial institutions, such as Lloyds Banking Group and Santander, where he has managed the Santander UK, Brazil and Portugal. His expertise and practice in leading complex banking transformation projects, digitization, as well as building a culture of trust will provide invaluable support for VeloBank at a key moment in its development, that is in the process of its merger with the retail business of Citi Handlowy.
“I am appreciative of how VeloBank, with Adam Marciniak at the helm, combines innovativeness with responsibility towards clients and the market. These values are particularly close to my heart. I believe that my experience in building stable, strong and innovative institutions will help to further reinforce VeloBank’s position as a reliable partner for clients and investors alike” says António Horta-Osório.
Jakub Papierski, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of VeloBank, emphasizes that: “António Horta-Osório is a leader and a global authority. His presence on our Supervisory Board strengthens the international dimension of experience in the key areas of the Bank’s governance, especially those related to the development strategy and the offering for individual clients, also from the wealth management segment. This strengthening will enhance the confidence of both investors and clients, including those served by Citi Handlowy before”.
Horta-Osório is recognized as one of the architects of modern banking in Europe. He led the digital transformation of Lloyds Banking Group, making it one of the strongest and most stable banks across Europe. Previously he positioned Santander UK as one of the UK’s fastest-growing retail banks.
He currently serves on the boards of directors of BIAL, as Chairman, Credit Commercial de France, as Deputy Chairman, José de Mello Capital, Fundação Champalimaud, and Stichting/Enable INPAR, as well as being a Senior Advisor to institutions such as Cerberus, Mediobanca, McKinsey and Precision Capital.
Another strengthening from the top league of the financial sector
The appointment of António Horta-Osório is another step in building a strong, international base for VeloBank, which is owned by Cerberus Capital Management, IFC (International Finance Corporation) and EBRD (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development). The Supervisory Board members are also Jakub Papierski (Chairman), Sarah Clark, Lidia Jabłonowska-Luba, Paweł Borys, Will Newton and Roberto Nicastro.
This decision proves that VeloBank is an institution with global capabilities, high governance standards and stable foundations, ready for further growth in the segment of affluent clients and investors looking for a bank that combines innovativeness, security and international credibility.
